- Abstract:
- The purpose of this project is the implementation of a reliable, scalable and
extensible directional antenna model over a WSN simulator.
In order to complete this task, we have addressed the work in several phases.
The first one has been the study of the state of the art of existing wireless sensor
networks (WSN) simulators. Next, we have settled the requirements to be
imposed to the simulator to ensure the required functionality. The most suitable
simulator for this project has been chosen by following these requirements,
resulting in MiXiM, an OMNET++ framework. After this selection, we have
made a thorough study of the software modules responsible for the physical
layer, in order to add a new directional antenna model that complement the
capabilities of the simulator.
Finally, we have carried out functional tests with the simulation of different scenarios,
proving the correct behavior of the modified system. Also, performance
tests have let us establish the additional computational cost factor involved in
using our model in comparison with the unmodified simulator.
