Tools for attacks detection in network traffic

Elena Jiménez-Mañas; José Camacho
Abstract:
Currently data analysis via exploratory data analysis has become an essential tool to deal with data sets. These data sets come from a wide range of fields. Due to the nature of this work, considered data sets are related to network traffic, in order to analyze and classify the traffic. According to the increasing importance of these techniques, the aim of this work is the design of a graphic interface, based on an existing exploratory data analysis framework, to provide the user or analyst with an interactive way to make the analysis effective and simple. First of all the existing exploratory data analysis tools are introduced. Then, the design and use of the graphic interface is shown. Finally, two examples are included to illustrate the utility of this work. The first data set is related to network forensics and the second one to a comparison of several routing algorithms in a Mobile Ad-hoc NETwork (MANET).
